New Responsive Website: Alexandria Film Festival

The Alexandria Film Festival was looking to update their website. Their previous website, a Wordpress site, lacked certain functionalities and had been pieced together over the years. In addition, the mobile version of the site did not display correctly and pushed all of the text to the top, leading to a larger bounce rate from those visiting the site who could not easily find what they were looking for. After discussing all of the options, we decided the best option would be the Squarespace platform. The key components to the new website included:

  • An easily accessible ticket button

  • A prominent “donate” link

  • An area to list sponsors

  • A news/press release section

It was also essential the the menu be visible so that visitors could easily navigate to the film schedule that takes place over a weekend.

The end result was a new, responsive website that accurately reflected the brand and showcased their brand colors: yellow/gold and black. A video background on the homepage with clips of various films from past festivals welcomes visitors to the website.

Key features on the new website included:

  • Responsive layout

  • Updated SEO and different SEO keywords for each page, depending on its function

  • HTTPS security. As of 2018, Google started listed websites without HTTPS as “not secure”. More on that HERE.

  • Video background on the homepage with clips from past festival films

  • Easy-to-use menu with different pages for each of the festival days

  • A prominent button for tickets and donations
